“Complete anonymity”

A VPN changes your visible address and closes your traffic off from the network you are sitting on. But while you are signed in to your accounts, those accounts identify you. Promising anonymity sells a feeling instead of a property.

“Military-grade encryption” and gigabits

The first is a phrase with no technical meaning. The second is a figure nobody can guarantee: any transit through a remote node adds latency. We would rather show you the route than draw you a speedometer.

What a VPN is

VPN stands for virtual private network. Your device opens an encrypted connection to a remote node, and the node reaches the internet from there. Your network sees only a connection to the node; sites see the node’s address instead of yours. That changes the route and the visible address — and that is the whole point.

Why Vodorod VPN rather than a large service?

Because we answer for one route end to end instead of for a storefront of thousands of points. The connection goes straight to the node, prices are in roubles and support answers in Russian. If you need to exit from a dozen countries, a large service suits you better — and we say so plainly.

Is a free VPN a bad idea?

Infrastructure costs money. If you are not paying, someone else is — usually through advertising or by reselling data about your traffic. A paid service at least has an obvious source of income: your subscription.

How many exit countries do I need?

Exactly as many as you use. To reach services restricted in your country, one suitable exit country is enough. A list of a hundred looks impressive and stays almost entirely unused.

Are you sure you keep no logs?

There is nothing for us to keep them with. Traffic does not cross our servers: the connection goes straight from the device to the node. That is how the service is built, not a policy line that could be rewritten.

What if it will not connect on my network?

Switch to the second mode in the app — it is built for different network conditions. Both modes are in the subscription at no extra cost. If that does not help, tell us your carrier and network.
